Hamlin Plantation Amenity Center

Hamlin Plantation overlooks Hamlin Sound and the Intracoastal Waterway, making the development a masterpiece in the making. “They just don’t make sites like this anymore,” says Tallon R. Temple, a spokesperson for SIM Group, and its subsidiary, SINTRA Corp. The Company made a special effort to leave intact a significant portion of the former plantation.

As evidence, Temple points to the history of the land, which was once home to small bands of Native Americans. The site is draped in lush exotic vegetation, inhabited by diverse wildlife and accentuated by sweeping vistas stretching over a mile along the Carolina coastline.

“We dedicated ourselves to preserving Hamlin Plantation’s natural and historical beauty from the beginning,” says Temple. “We’ve taken the high road to ensure the location remains an historical landmark.”

Temple believes that Hamlin Plantation reflects the integrity of SINTRA Corp., developers of the award-winning Brickyard Plantation, and its project partner, John Wieland Homes, a recipient of the National Home Builder of the Year Award presented by Professional Builder magazine. This development team took special care to preserve the landscape’s long-standing oaks and other tree cover. As part of its commitment to the environment, along with the 1350 acres of development, it incorporated a 900-acre reserve into a conservation land bank, saving an untouched piece of paradise for future generations.

The developers of Hamlin Plantation beat the clock when implementing the Town of Mount Pleasant’s permit allocation program. The program, begun in 1999, is expected to help bring the town’s rate of growth down to a manageable 3% annually by limiting the number of building permits issued for dwelling units over a period of seven years. With “controlled growth” on the minds of most residents, new communities in Mount Pleasant the size and scope of Hamlin Plantation may soon be a thing of the past.

Temple says that Hamlin Plantation is now approaching the end of development, with almost all of its more than 900 homes completed or nearing completion. Some Wieland-built high end townhomes are on the board for 2007. “We believe that Hamlin Plantation is destined to follow in Brickyard Plantation’s footsteps,” adds Temple, referring to that community’s unprecedented five “Community of the Year” awards from the Charleston Trident Homebuilders Association.
